On Saturday, the Hazard Lady Bulldog soccer team played their final scrimmage of the preseason. The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Hawks of Pike Central.
It took Hazard just a few minutes to get their first goal, and from that point, the Lady Bulldogs began to score at will. They were able to get the ball in the net with every conceivable play.
The Lady Bulldogs scored off penalty kicks, free kicks, rebounds and the box, and one-on-one opportunities with the goalie. By the time the horn sounded to end the first half, Hazard was on top 7-0.
The Hazard defense continued to shut out the Pike Central offense in the second half, limiting their looks at the goal. The Lady Bulldogs were able to hold the Lady Hawks to just a handful of shots on goal for the entire game.
On the other side of the ball, the Lady Bulldogs began to slow in the second half. Hazard was only able to add a pair of goals to their tally, ending with the 9-0 win. The game was called due to lightning with just about a minute left to play.
Coach Bowling added this about his team’s first two scrimmage games, “In our first scrimmage we really struggled on the road against an excellent Prestonsburg team, but I felt like we learned a lot from that experience. We bounced back in our second scrimmage against Pike Central, an extremely physical team that played very hard. Our goal is steady improvement as we begin a challenging schedule.”
