The final game of the Perry County 6th grade tournament came down to a showdown between the Chavies Cardinals and the R.W. Combs Mustangs. The Mustangs sat in the driver’s seat for most of the game, but a late rally by the Cardinals forced an overtime. Chavies managed to pull out the 48-43 win in the extra period.
R.W. Combs came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, and ended the period with a 15-8 lead. Chavies was able to slow the pace in the second period, and knocked a couple of points off their deficit, sending them to the locker room trailing the Mustangs 20-15.
The Mustangs picked up the pace coming out of the locker room, and put their margin back to seven points at the end of the period (29-22). Late in the fourth quarter, R. W. Combs lost both of their big men to fouls, and Chavies went to work on the boards.
The Cardinals tied the score late in the period, and ended the frame tied at 39. Chavies dominated the overtime period, and came away with the 48-43 win, and the title.
