On Friday, the R.W. Combs Mustangs and the East Perry Miners took to the hardwood in a battle that would send one team to the finals of the 6th grade county tournament. The momentum swung back and forth throughout the game, with the final rally belonging to the Mustangs. R.W. Combs claimed the first spot in the finals with a narrow 40-38 win.
The early momentum belonged to the Mustangs as they posted the 9-4 lead at the first horn. The Miners, however, would find their groove in the second period as they rallied to take the 18-13 advantage into the break.
The pendulum swung back into R.W. Combs’ court for the third frame, allowing them to lead 31-27 with six minutes to play. East Perry staged a comeback in the fourth period, leaving the outcome of the game to be decided in the final minute. R.W. Combs was able to hold on for the 40-38 win.
