On Friday, the Perry County Central Commodores and the Buckhorn Wildcats took to the court in the 54th district championship game. The Commodores took the only regular season meeting with a 15 point win.
The Commodores opened the game hot, hitting on all cylinders, while their defense created a impenetrable ring around the rim (holding the Wildcats to a single field goal in the period). Perry Central finished the quarter with the 24-5 lead.
Buckhorn continued to attack the rim in the second quarter, and began to find their range, while Perry Central remained hot, and continued to extend their advantage. The Commodores went into the locker room with the 43-17 advantage.
The Wildcats continued to improve their offensive performance in the third period, and outscored the Commodores in the frame. However, it did little to erase their deficit as Perry Central held the 58-33 lead going into the final eight minutes.
The Commodores opened the fourth quarter strong, and with five minutes remaining they had all their starters on the bench. The Commodores went on to win the game by the final count of 74-43, giving them the 54th district title.
