On Friday, the Perry County Central Commodore football team traveled to Jackson to take on the Breathitt County Bobcats. Last season, the Commodores lone win came at the hands of the Bobcats.
Despite starting the game with a fumble, Perry Central was able to jump out to the early lead. The Commodores gave up a touchdown to the Bobcats, but still managed a 14-6 lead at the end of the first period.
The Commodores kept the pressure on in the second quarter, scoring another touchdown. However, the Bobcats were able to match it, and with less than a minute remaining in the half, Perry Central held the 21-12 lead.
Breathitt County took the Perry County kickoff with a mere 58 seconds on the clock. On their first play from scrimmage, the Bobcats took a short pass down the sideline for a 68 yard touchdown. Going into the half, Perry Central’s lead was a scant 21-18.
Perry Central’s offense disappeared in the third quarter, and they seemed to be going in the opposite direction. Breathitt County was able to take advantage of this, and scored the go ahead touchdown late in the period (21-24).
The Commodores stood strong in the fourth quarter, limiting the Bobcats to just a handful of yards. With time almost gone, Perry Central manufactured a drive that would give them the lead for good. The touchdown, put Perry Central up 29-24.
The Commodores’ defense had one more strong stand left, preserving the win. The win set Perry Central’s season record at 2-0.
