On Thursday, the Hazard Bulldogs hosted the Perry County Central Commodores. The game quickly turned into a contest of wills as the Bulldogs settled back into their defense in an attempt to stop the Commodores high-powered offense.
In order to keep the Commodores off the board, the Bulldogs dropped most of their players into the box. The strategy worked for the most part as Perry Central only able to muster a single goal in the half. However, on the other side of the field, Hazard was unable to get off a single shot.
The only goal of the half came when Chad Smith led Zac Combs into the box after Combs gave him the ball on a slick give and go. The Bulldogs, though trailing at the half, were in the position they had hoped for.
After the half, Hazard dropped back into their regular set, and the pace of the game increased dramatically. Perry Central opened the scored with an indirect kick from John Watts in the box (Zac Combs got the assist).
The Commodores went up 3-0 moments later as Chad Smith scored off a neat pass from Jacob Farris. Smith came across the end line to take the pass and make a low shot to the corner.
The final Perry Central goal came from Zack Miller who trapped a pass from Jake Mullis, and worked the ball passed the keeper (4-0).
Hazard would get the final goal of the game. After a foul in the box, Kyle Johnson was able to slam the penalty kick past the goal keeper, bringing the final tally to 4-1.
