Christopher L. Collins, 34, of Viper was traveling north on Kentucky Highway 15 in the Carr Fork community of Knott County at approximately 1 a.m. on January 21.
Kentucky State Police from Post 13 in Hazard received a 911 call about the accident and responded to the scene. Through their preliminary investigation, troopers discovered that Calvin Turner, 47, of Birmingham, Ala. was traveling backward in a commercial vehicle in the northbound lane.
Collins was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the truck due to slick roads and poor weather conditions. He received fatal injuries when his passenger car struck the truck, and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Knott County coroner.
The investigation into the crash is continuing by Troopers Brandon Thomas and Jonathan Sizemore with the Kentucky State Police.
