HAZARD – The final yearly report of the Perry County Grand Jury was read in open court on January 4 and released to the public on January 13.

It is noted in the report that the Grand Jury first met on January 22, 2010 and heard a total of 323 cases. Out of those 323, the grand jury returned 318 indictments and five no true bills.

Also in the report, last year’s Grand Jury passes and refers all cases “bound over by the District Court” that weren’t presented to them, to the next Grand Jury, which will meet for the first time this month.

“We greatly appreciate the accommodation of the Circuit Court in accepting and reviewing our indictments and the assistance of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Honorable Teresa Combs Reed and her staff in presenting the evidence and preparing indictments,” the report reads.
