The two teams raced up and down the floor in the first quarter trying to determine who would control the tempo. At the horn, R. W. Combs had taken control with the 8-4 lead.
The momentum shifted in the second period, with Chavies picking up the majority of their points from the free throw line. However, the Mustangs were still on top going into the break 13-12.
Both teams caught fire in the third period as shots began to fall. The Cardinals won the battle on the scoreboard (14-10), sending them to the final six minutes with the 26-23 advantage.
R. W. Combs turned up the pressure in the final period, and regained the lead. However, Chavies was not willing to give up without a fight, and hung in there until the final seconds. The Mustangs got the final basket, and collected the 36-34 win, putting them in the championship game.
