Bombers take Trooper Island Tourney

Last week, the 12-year-old all-star traveling team from Hazard-Perry went to Harlan to participate in the 5th Annual Trooper Island Tournament. The Bombers played seven games in three days and came away with the title.

The Bombers opened the tournament with Middlesboro. They needed but four innings to bring the contest to an end, winning 13-1. Devin Morris led the attack with a home run in the third inning.

The Bombers opened tournament play on Saturday, taking on Tri-Cities. Again the event went but four innings as Hazard-Perry dropped their opponents 16-3.

Game three for the Bombers pitted them against the Swingmen. This game would go only three innings as Hazard-Perry would stop play early with a 16-0 score.

Game number four, a late night affair, saw the Bombers take on the team from Harrison County. Hazard-Perry fell behind early, and would not see the lead throughout the game. The Bombers eventually fell by the score of 5-3, putting them in the loser’s bracket.

D. Morris 1 hit and 1 run, Sa. Goldman 1 hit and 1 run, and T. Pollard 1 run.

Hazard-Perry started Sunday’s rounds of games with the Express. The Bombers got back on track in this game, needing only four innings to bring it to a halt. Hazard-Perry moved on in the tournament with the 12-0 win.

In the semi-finals, Hazard-Perry took on the team from Fleming Neon. The Bombers jumped out to the early lead with three runs in the first inning. They would eventually take the 5-0 lead, and then hold off a late rally by Fleming Neon. The Bombers would move into the finals with the 5-3 win.

In the championship game, the Bombers took on Tri-Cities East. The game would take the entire six innings, with Hazard-Perry using a steady offense to cruise to the 9-2 win. Devin Morris was named the tournament MVP, while Trey Pollard received the Offensive Award.
