Collision kills man in Letcher

JENKINS A Virginia man was killed in an accident Friday morning after his motorcycle struck the wheel of a tractor-trailer.
The collision happened on U.S. Highway 23 in Jenkins as 49-year-old Jimmy Travis Walker, of Coeburn, was passing another vehicle on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle when he struck a 1999 Kenworth operated by Bobby D. Morris, 47, of Whitesburg, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police. Morris had just pulled onto the highway when the collision occurred.
Walker was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police report, and was unable to avoid the collision when he struck the rear tire of the coal trucks trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroners Office.
Morris was unhurt in the incident.
Police say the accident remains under investigation.
