Hazard Bulldogs finish preseason at Breathitt
by TONY MCGUIRE/Sports Editor
The Hazard Bulldogs completed their 2004 preseason this weekend on the road at Breathitt County. The game proved to be quite a test for the young Bulldogs as the Bobcats are loaded and should be one to the state's top Class AA programs.
According to Coach Dixon, "The game was what we needed to expose our weakness. It will show us what we need to work on going into the regular season."
Despite the difficulty of the challenge, Hazard showed promise in several areas. Offensively, the Bulldogs were able to make several catches deep in the Bobcats' secondary, and the offensive line was able to give their quarterback time to find his receivers most of the time. Defensively, the Bulldogs were able to keep a very productive Bobcat running game in check for most of the scrimmage. This forced Breathitt County to go to the air. Although they had considerable success, it was something they did not count on having to do. Coach Dixon concluded his thoughts on the game with, "I feel that with a lot of work, every mistake we made is correctable."
