Buckhorn downs Viper 58-46

On Monday, the Buckhorn Wildcats traveled to Viper where they took on the Hornets. The Wildcats were able to control the tempo in the early going, and build an insurmountable lead in the first half. Despite several valiant efforts by the Hornets, they were unable to erase the first half deficit, and Buckhorn was able to hold on for the 58-46 win.
Buckhorn mixed the tempos wisely in the firs half, pushing the pace with their press on defense, and slowing it with
.the up tempo force the Hornets into several turnovers and poor shots, the methodical running of the offense netted several "3"s. The Wildcats opened up a substantial 23-11 lead at the end of the first period, and went into the half with a 34-19 advantage.
After the break, Viper managed to turn the tables on the Wildcats, forcing them to play the Hornets style of game. With the momentum in their favor, Viper began to stage a comeback.
The Hornets were able to cut the lead to six points late in the third period, but a late rally by the Wildcats pushed the margin back to double-digits (44-34) going into the final period. Several times during the fourth quarter, the Hornets were able to cut into the Wildcat lead, but each time Buckhorn was able to rally to hold onto the lead. Buckhorn was able to withstand Viper's final onslaught, and went on to win the game by the final count of 58-46.
Jacob Watts led the Hornets in scoring with 26 points on the night, while John Amis led Buckhorn, and all scorers, with 28 points.

Earlier in the JV game, Buckhorn managed to overcome a slow start to down Viper 42-28. After falling behind 10-8 in the first quarter, the Wildcats rallied to take a 19-17 lead into the intermission. From there, Buckhorn went on to lead 25-19 going into the final quarter, and closed out the game with the 42-28 win.
