At least 25 low-income families in and around Perry County will receive needed home repairs in 2005 and 2006. The Hazard/Perry County Housing Development Alliance has received additional funding from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Over the past ten years, the Housing Development Alliance (HDA) has repaired the homes of over 100 families in Perry and surrounding counties. The community-based nonprofit organization will continue to repair homes using this additional funding.  Chris Doll, Housing Specialist with HDA, is excited about this opportunity.

"This is another way low-income homeowners can have a decent place to live."

After applying competitively for the funds from Kentucky Housing Corporation, HDA was awarded $125,000. The funding offers flexibility and increase the amount of repairs to be done for low-income homeowners.  Doll explains further, "The Affordable Housing Trust Fund allows us to stretch the repairs we can do with our volunteer program.  By combining professional carpenters with volunteers, the Housing Development Alliance is able to guarantee quality repairs while keeping the cost to the homeowner as affordable as possible."

The Housing Development Alliance is a community-based nonprofit organization, offering affordable new homes, home repairs, and rental units for low- and very low-income residents in Hazard and Perry County.
