Brenda Baker, age 30, was arrested by Patrolman James East at her home on the night of the robbery after the victim, Woodrow Westerfield, identified Baker as one of two people who robbed his home.
Police received a call stating that a robbery had taken place on Saturday, January 7 at Westerfield's home on Cornell Avenue. Upon arrival,Patrolmen James East and Joey McKenney located Westerfield, at which time he told police that he had been robbed by Baker and a young man at knife point.
According to McKenney, Westerfield was robbed after Baker knocked on his front door. Upon opening the door, police say the young man pushed the door open and held Westerfield down with a butcher knife to his throat while Baker allegedly searched the home. McKenney noted that Westerfield has a small cut on his neck where he could have been held with a knife. According to East, the two robbed Westerfield of Hydrocodone and Adavant and eleven dollars in cash.
Monday afternoon East arrested nineteen year old Joey Nix and charged him with first-degree robbery. East said based on witness statements he was able to identify Nix as the young man. Nix was located in the Probation and Parole office in Hazard. According to court records, he is currently due in court in February on charges of receiving stolen property.
Also on Monday, East executed a search warrant at the home of Brenda Baker where he says he located five hydrocodone pills the victim identified as being the same type stolen from his home on Saturday.
Baker was arrested on Saturday and charged with complicity to robbery first-degree. She was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail under a $15,000 cash bond. Nix was lodged in the jail on Monday under a $50,000 cash bond.
