The Buckhorn Wildcats have been the standout 6th grade team in the county this year as they have racked up 30+ wins with just a single loss. The Wildcats had little trouble working their way through the competition in the tournament, and claiming a spot in the championship game.
In the title game, the Wildcats faced a determined A. B. Combs Bearcat team that had won three hard fought contests to reach the title game. Buckhorn would pick up the culminating hardware in much the same fashion as they had single victories throughout the season, with a convincing 43-15 win.
From the opening tip, both teams raced up and down the court at a fevered pitch, with Buckhorn making good on the majority of shots. At the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats had jumped out to an 11-2 lead on the Bearcats.
The Wildcats continued to dominate play in the second quarter, holding the Bearcats without a point in the period. Buckhorn's offense dropped off during the quarter, but they were able to extend their lead to 18-2 going into the intermission.
The Wildcats put up their biggest numbers during the third period, and secured the win with a total of 31 points going into the final period. A. B. Combs was unable to stop the Buckhorn assault in the final period, leaving the Wildcats to claim the title by the final tally of 43-15.
Tate Gay led the Wildcats to victory with a game-high 9 points, while Josh Hollon led the Bearcats with 8 points.
