The June Buchanan Crusaders entered the 14th region tournament riding a high over their school's first ever region championship. The Crusaders took on the newest team in the 14th region, the Estill County Engineers, in the opening round.
The Crusaders struggled with the Engineers throughout the game, and had to rely on a big finish to put the victory in the book. June Buchanan was able to inch ahead of Estill County by a single point in each the first and second quarter, sending them to the locker room with a 28-26 lead.
Estill County cut a point off the score in the third period, giving June Buchanan a 43-42 advantage entering the final period. The Crusaders were able to reach down deep for a late rally, one which lifted them to a ten point win (66-56).
The Crusaders were led in scoring by Tate Cox who had 21 points in the game.
