The Perry County Central Commodores opened play in the Queen City Classic this past Wednesday with the Madison Southern Tigers. The Commodores stumbled out of the gate, but recovered midway through. Perry Central was able to stop a late rally by the Tigers to pull out the 5-3 win.

Madison Southern got on the board first, striking for a single run in each the first and third innings (2-0). Perry Central was able to erase those runs and take a lead of their own in the fourth inning, crossing the plate four times.

John Couch, Scott Watts and Jon Bowling got the inning started with back-to-back-to-back singles. Bowling picked up an RBI (Couch) with his. Ronnie Noplis then plated Watts and Bowling with a double to leftfield. Noplis would later round out the scoring for the Commodores by crossing the plate on a pass ball (4-2).

Perry Central picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning (5-2). Jon Bowling scored his second run of the game after getting aboard with a double. Bowling would come around to score on a single by Ronnie Noplis (giving Noplis 3 RBI for the game).

Madison Southern was able to put together a rally in the seventh inning. The Tigers picked up a run early, and were looking to cross the plate with a couple more when the Commodores' defense stepped up. Perry Central was able to take the lead runner off base on a fielder's choice and came up with a big catch in the outfield to end the game.

The Commodores moved undefeated in the tournament with a 5-3 win.

John Couch got the win on the mound, going five innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned), 3 hits, striking out 9, with no walks. Ronnie Noplis picked up the save, going two innings, allowing one run (unearned), 3 hits, with 2 walks.
