Elva Blankenship, 83, of Topmost, died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at home. She was the daughter of the late Dewey and Pearlie Patton Gibson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Caney Fork Old Regular Baptist Church in Raven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Blankenship, parents, 2 brothers, Ernest Gibson and Delano Gibson, 1 sister, June Davis and 1 granddaughter, Lori Blankenship. She is survived by 2 sons, Larry and Mitzi Blankenship of Allegan, MI; Pat Blankenship of Hazard; 2 daughters, Connie Erdman and Bonnie Cross, both of Columbus, OH; 1 brother, Cantrel Gibson of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; 3 sisters, Ora Sawyer and Bonnie Harris, both of Topmost; Shelby and Gene Tessier of New Bern, NC; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral was conducted Monday, February 26, 2007 at the Caney Fork Old Regular Baptist Church with the Regular Baptist Ministers officiating, burial in the Spring Hill Memorial Park in Spring Hill, TN. Christopher George Lewis
Christopher George Lewis, 36, died Saturday, February 17, 2007. Hewas the son of Harry Lewis and Debbie Watson. Christopher was an Occupational Therapist and employed by the Hazard ARH. He loved playing music on his guitar, golf-4-wheeling, travel watching and playing backetball.He weas preceded in death by his paternal granparents, Bill and Florence Lewis;maternal grandmother, Justeen Feaselman; cousins, Barry Williams and Jeff Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Tommi Michelle Lewis of Ary; father, Harry Lewis of Coon Creek; mother and step-father, Debbie Shepherd and Donnie Webster of Webster, IN; host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Don T. Dix
Don T. Dix, 66, of Naples, Florida, died Thursday, February 22, 2007. He was born in Hazard to Claybourne and Margaret Seale Dix, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and received masters and doctorate degrees in Chemistry from the Ohio State University. He did post graduate work at the University of Illinois. He worked 30 years for The Dow Chemical Company and one and one-half years for the Michigan Molecular Institute. He was a member of Neapolitan Civitan Club and the American Chemical Society. Recently he served as advisor to the Naples High Junior Civitan Club. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary “Micky”; his children, Alissa and John Cambier; Michael and Elissa Jones; 4 sisters, Dorothy and Andrew Luttrell, Betty and Joe Dente, Shawnee and Bob Averitt, and Jane and Jack Adams. Funeral was held Monday, February 26, 2007 at Naples Memorial Funeral Home in Naples. Memorials are suggested to Special Olympics in Collier County, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT, Hospice of Naples or to the donor’s choice.
Ruth and Chester Fugate, Jr
Ruth Vera Sortman Fugate, 78, of Plano, Texas, died, September 10, 2006 in Texas. Chester Fugate, Jr, 78 of Plano, Texas, died February 13, 2007. Chester and Ruth had been married for 57 years and had lived in Lawrenceville, Georgia for the past 29 years. Chester retired from NCR in Dayton, Ohio in 1978 after 25 years. He then worked for Tec America in Norcross, Georgia, retiring in 2001 at the age of 73. They are survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jin Fugate of Planto, TX; daughter, Gale Fugate of Plano, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Berning of North Bend, WA; granddaughter, Amanda Fugate of Plano, TX; Chester is survived by 2 sisters, Betty Hickman of Dayton, OH; Flora Orcen Steele of Hazard; 2 brothers, Chester Lee Fugate of North Pole, Alaska; Jesse Fugate of St. Clair, MI.
