Hazard edges Knott

On Monday, the Hazard Bulldogs entertained the Knott Central Patriots in their season home opener. The Patriots got out of the gates first and enjoyed a lead throughout the first half. In the second half, however, the Bulldogs took control, and went on to the 54-51 win.
A tough Knott County defense, coupled with a can’t-miss offense, led the Patriots to the 17-12 lead in the first period. Hazard was able to recover in the second quarter, and began to make their move. Going into the break, the Bulldogs still trailed (29-25), but had the momentum.
The Bulldogs opened the third quarter with a slow, methodical offense that slowly brought them back even with the Patriots. Hazard then closed out the frame with a small run that would net them a 40-37 lead going into the final eight minutes.
Knott County regrouped for a final run at Hazard, and was successful early. However, the Bulldogs were more than up to the challenge, and kept the Patriots at bay. Knott County had a final shot at the tie, but could not get a good look at the basket, leaving Hazard to collect the 54-51 win.
