An eastern Kentucky man was killed after he apparently lost control of his vehicle in the Topmost community of Knott County.
Officials with the Kentucky State Police Post in Hazard say at approximately 3:17 p.m Saturday afternoon they received a call reporting a single vehicle accident in Topmost.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the vehicle, 38-year-old Mark Johnson, of Topmost, was traveling north on Ky. 7 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway before striking a tree. Johnson was the only occupant in the vehicle. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the Knott County Coroner’s Office.
No seat belts were in use at the time of the accident, according to police, and the investigating is being continued by Trooper Randall Riley.
