Early last week, the Perry County Central Commodores opened their 2011-12 season with a home game against the Powell County Pirates. The Commodores struggled with the Pirates early, but opened up the game late to take the double-digit win.

Perry Central came out hot, building a double-digit lead before Powell County got on the board. The Pirates were able to get the lead below double digits before the horn, giving the Commodores the 20-12 lead after one.

Powell County remained hot during the second period, hitting several shots from beyond the arc. Perry Central was able to narrowly hold onto the lead (31-28) going into the break.

The Commodores struggled to keep the Pirates at bay during the third quarter, but as the period came to a close, Perry Central began to heat up. With eight minutes left to play, the Commodores were on top 45-37.

The momentum carried over to the fourth quarter, and Perry Central began to pull away. Once the lead hit double digits, the Commodores never looked back. Perry Central went on to win the game by the final score of 71-49.

Perry Central (71) Dalton Cornett 9, Trevor Combs 2, Kyle Huff 7, Braxton Beverly 23, Austin Pray 16, John Smith 7, Trevor Kelly 2 and Darryl Beatty 5.

Powell Co. (49) Conner 4, Dennis 3, Pelphrey 15, Monnett 3, Marcum 17, Hubbard 2 and B. Goodwin 5.
