On Monday, the Buckhorn Wildcats hit the hardwood for a regional semifinal matchup with the Powell County Pirates. The Wildcats got off to a fast start, building a 20-point lead. However, the lead did not hold up as they took a cat nap, allowing the Pirates to cut the lead to two. Buckhorn quickly recovered and ran the tally back to 20 points.
Buckhorn wasted little time blowing the lid off the game. Within a couple of minutes, the Wildcats had pushed the lead to double digits (15-5). Buckhorn finished the quarter with a 10-0 run, giving them the 25-5 lead at the horn.
The Wildcats went ice cold in the second period, while the Pirates went on a strong run. By the time the game reached the half, Powell County was within five at 28-23.
Powell County continued to hold the momentum in the early minutes of the third period, and eventually cut the lead to just two points (34-32). At that point, Buckhorn awoke from their nap, and went on a strong run that netted them the 50-38 lead going into the final eight minutes.
