HPD announces safety checkpoints for 2012
by Herald Staff
The Hazard Police Department will be conducting safety checkpoints in several areas inside city limits in the coming months, beginning this week.
The department began last year conducting these checkpoints in the city at various times, looking for compliance to traffic safety laws among other things. Deputy Chief Joe Engle noted that these newest checkpoints will be serving the same purpose, and officers will be looking for things such as drivers with no insurance and other traffic violations such as failure to wear a seatbelt. They will also be keeping an eye out for intoxicated drivers and individuals with outstanding warrants.
Engle noted that while the dates of these checkpoints are set, locations and times have not yet been finalized.
“We’re (conducting checkpoints) at different times through the day, through those periods, and at different locations throughout town,” he said.
Hazard Police Department checkpoints will be held on the following weeks in 2012:
March 31 – April 7
April 30 – May 5
May 31- June 9
June 30 – July 7
August 31 – Sept 8
Sept 30 – Oct 6
Oct 29 – Nov 3
