The Perry County Central Lady Commodores traveled to Whitesburg late last week for a match up with the Letcher Central Lady Cougars. The Lady Commodores got on the board early, and often, and defeated the Lady Cougars 12-3.

The Lady Commodores started the game strong, and made the round trip to the plate three times in the opening frame. The 3-0 lead held until the bottom of the second when the Lady Cougars broke the ice with a solo run (3-1).

The third inning got off to a bang as Whitney Back led off with a homerun. Perry Central would tack on another run in the inning to bring the tally to 5-1.

The Lady Commodores added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings (7-1), with the Lady Cougars plating a run in the bottom of the fifth (7-2). Perry Central then erased all of the Letcher Central runs from the margin with a three-run sixth inning (10-2).

The Lady Commodores pushed the lead to 12-2 in the seventh inning. Letcher Central could only muster a one-run rally in the seventh, allowing Perry Central to come away with the 12-3 win.

Shelby Sheffield went five innings, giving up two runs on five hits, with two strikeouts and five walks. Whitney Back added two innings on the mound, with one run and three hits.

Perry Central stats: Morgan Combs 3 hits and 3 runs, Whitney Back 3 hits (HR), 3 runs and 4 RBI, Shelby Sheffield 1 hit and 1 RBI, Melia Kemper 3 hits, 3 runs and 2 RBI, Shaelyn Eversole 1 hit, 1 run and 2 RBI, Hannah Johnson 2 hits, Mahayla Walker 1 hit and 1 RBI and Rachel Curry 2 runs.
