HAZARD – A Pulaski County man is facing a felony charge for allegedly stealing copper wire early this month.

Patrolman Preston Napier with the Hazard Police Department arrested 19-year-old Patrick J. McIntosh of Somerset on April 1 on one count of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000.

According to the arrest citation, Napier received a call from dispatch reporting that two people were spotted possibly stealing copper from utility lines at a location on Messer Branch. Napier reported that when he arrived on the scene, McIntosh was sitting in the passenger seat of a blue Dodge Ram pick-up. The driver fled the scene, though Napier was able to apprehend McIntosh, and reported that there were multiple strands of wire found near the truck.

An employee of Windstream, the company that owned the wire, informed Officer Napier that repairs to the damaged lines would total more than $10,000.

McIntosh is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Perry District Court on April 10.
