HAZARD – A second teenager has been charged in connection with a robbery in Knott County this week.

Austin T. Gayheart, 18, of Bulan, was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with first-degree robbery for what police say was his part in an armed robbery at the Double Kwik on Ky. 80 near Hindman.

The first person, 18-year-old Jesse James Combs of Fisty, was charged early Wednesday morning with first-degree facilitation to commit robbery misdemeanor receiving stolen property.

The robbery allegedly occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. The store’s clerk was outside at the gas pumps when he was approached by a man brandishing a handgun, according to a release from Kentucky State Police. The perpetrator was wearing a black ski mask, black pants, green jacket and boots, and led the clerk back into the store where he took money and cigarettes before fleeing the scene in a passenger car.

During a traffic stop later that morning on Highway 80 in the Emmalena community, police detained a juvenile and an adult, and say a second adult fled the vehicle just prior to the stop. After further investigation, police arrested Combs and charged him, while the juvenile was released to his parents.

Gayheart is currently lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
