The Hazard Bulldogs took on the Jenkins Cavaliers in the semifinals of the 14th region All “A” baseball tournament. The Bulldogs took the early lead, but then fell behind. However, they were more than able to make up the difference as they cruised to the 17-7 win.
Hazard opened the game with three runs in the first inning. By the end of the second period, however, the Bulldogs found themselves on the short end of a 5-4 score.
The Bulldogs were able to tie the score in the third inning (5-5), and moved back into the lead 6-5 in the fifth inning. Hazard began to take control in the sixth inning, plating two more (8-7), and blew the game open with a nine run rally in the seventh inning (17-7).
The Bulldogs moved into the championship game with the 17-7 win. Evan Whitaker picked up the win on the mound, going three-plus innings, giving up two runs, on no hits, while walking four and striking out seven.
