Assault charge against board member dismissed

HAZARD — A misdemeanor assault charge filed against a member of the Perry County Board of Education was dismissed during a hearing in district court last week.
It was on July 2, 2011 when former Vicco Mayor Harry Ward filed a criminal complaint against 44-year-old James Ritchie, who serves on the county school board, alleging that Ritchie had assaulted Ward during an event at the annual Vicco Days.
Ritchie was charged with fourth-degree assault, but the case was dismissed on Friday on the condition that Ritchie take no action to file charges against Ward.
Special prosecutor Brendon Miller of Breathitt County said during the hearing that Ward agreed with the decision.
