by Tony McGuire
On Friday, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs hosted the Paintsville Lady Tigers as the first game of a double-header. Hazard had a late rally in them, but it came up short as Paintsville took the 10-8 win.
Hazard pushed a run across the plate in the first inning to take the early lead. However, Paintsville came storming back with three runs in the second (1-3), and managed another run in the top of the third (1-4).
The Lady Bulldogs were able to cut their deficit to a single run in the bottom of the third, but turned around and gave the runs back in the next inning (3-6). Paintsville had their biggest inning in the fifth inning as they scored four, pushing their lead to 3-10.
Hazard’s bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning as they crossed the plate multiple times, and tallied five runs. The rally cut the margin to two runs (8-10) with two innings to go.
Neither teams would revisit the plate down the stretch, and the 8-10 scored held as the final.
