Alpha Xi holds May social
by Tony McGuire
The Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International held their May social on May 19 at the board room at Primary Care Center. As each lady and her guests arrived, they were treated to a fruit punch served by Ethan Bivens and were allowed to select a ring from Chris Williams, both of the PCCHS JROTC unit.
The luncheon menu consisted of three courses. The soup was gazpacho, followed by the main course of fruited chicken salad served on a croissant, strawberry cloud salad and a Mediterranean green bean salad. The dessert course was a Mexican chocolate cake with a buttercream cinnamon frosting served with a vanilla ice cream. The luncheon was served by Cadets Bivens and Williams. A third cadet, Evan Mosley, assembled the plates.
Following the dessert course, the winners of the hat contest, as selected by the cadets, were announced. Mrs. Ruth Baker won for the most original hat, Mrs. Jayne Rose Marsh won for the most unusual hat and Ms. April Nease won for the most glamorous hat. Each hat winner was presented with a gift card from JC Penney by Ms. Debra Combs. The door prize winner was Mrs. Rita Pack.
The Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International held their final meeting, before their summer break, on May 21. President Michelle Gambill called the meeting to order and the club handled their old and new business. Mary Carol Rutledge, Laura Lee Smith and Rayma West requested to be made members-at-large due to health problems. Barbara Tate requested a one-year leave of absence. Committee chairwomen and members were announced for the second time to the members. Program Chairwoman Carla Brashear asked that members sing up for their program and hostess duties for the 2012-2013 year.
The program “Our Year in Review” was a DVD collection of photos from throughout the 2011-2012 year highlighting such events as the monthly socials, the crowning of the Valentine’s Sweetheart Theresa Watts and the Woman of the Year Tina Fields, set to music. Hostesses for the meeting were Janet Smith and Ruth Baker.
