The Hazard Bulldogs football team will be gearing up for repeat performance of their 2011 state championship season, though the Bulldogs will be facing the loss of several key players from last year’s team.
Evan Whitaker helped lead the Bulldogs to the Class A state title as the teams’ quarterback, and will return, as will others such as Austin Johnson and Jordan Olinger. But Coach Mark Dixon will be looking for some other players to step up this year after losing several to graduation, including Jordan Hampton, Eric Mason, B.J. Combs, Zachery Blanton and Dylan Logan, all who signed to play college ball at the University of Pikeville.
The Bulldogs will kick off their 2012 season on August 24 against Clintwood, Va. Some other early interesting games on the schedule to look out for will be match-ups with Somerset, Lexington Christian and Breathitt County in September.
