HAZARD — A man was fortunately uninjured following an accident on Highway 15 Friday afternoon that witnesses say was caused by a bag of aluminum cans.

Jimmy Jent was driving north toward Hazard near Cardinal Chevrolet when a truck carrying bags of cans lost one of its bags in the road. Jent said that a woman attempted to pick up the bag in the middle of road and put it back in the truck while cars were coming toward her.

“There was a woman there picking up cans, and then she turns around and pulled out in front of me,” said Jent.

Jent and several other drivers had to swerve out of the way of the woman and the truck to avoid hitting them. It was then the Jent said he lost control of the car and flipped into the ditch. He was able to get out of the car unharmed, but said that he got lucky.

“I walked out of it,” he said. “It didn’t hurt me.”

The truck carrying the bags continued on and left the scene. Deputy Chief Joe Engle of the Hazard Police Department said that noone got a look at the license plate of the vehicle, but they are looking for the truck that apparently caused the accident. It was been described as a brown pickup truck with a load of cans in the back.
