Run for the Hills Charity Challenge campaign underway
by Bailey Richards
For the second straight year, 13 Perry County nonprofits will challenge themselves to raise as much money as they can.
From August 1 to October 31, those organizations will be participating in the Run for the Hills Charity Challenge campaign. In return for their efforts, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky will match the amount each of the nonprofits raise up to $10,000.
In total, over $153,000 was raised as a result of the 2011 Charity Challenge campaign. The nonprofit partners participating in the Challenge this year are: Buckhorn Children and Family Services, Challenger Learning Center, Hazard Perry County Community Ministries, Hazard Perry County Senior Citizens, Housing Development Alliance, Individuals Supporting Bulldog Education (ISBE), KY Infant Development Station (KIDS), KY River Children’s Advocacy Center (Care Cottage), KY Mountain Health Alliance (Little Flower Clinic), KY River Regional Animal Shelter, Pathfinders of Perry County, Perry County 4-H, and Youth Leadership and Philanthropy Initiative.
Gerry Roll, Executive Director for the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky said, “This is an opportunity for all of us to work together to sustain our community and enhance all of our lives. The Foundation, along with all of our Charity Challengers, is excited about helping so many of our local nonprofits fulfill their mission – today and for the future.”
The second annual Run for the Hills 5K is scheduled for Saturday, October 6. Last year’s event was a great success with over 100 runners and walkers participating. Event coordinators expect an even larger turnout this year. Early-Bird 5K Registration ends August 17.
