Jessie Jones, 83, passed away on Thursday, August 16 at the hospice care center in Hazard.
She was born July 11, 1929 in Perry County, the daughter of the late Slaughter Jones and the late Nannie Kilburn Jones. She was also preceded in death by her son, French “Buck” Sumner, grandson Jimmie Sumner, and a host of brothers and sisters. She enjoyed fishing, and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Barnett of Nashville; daughters Christie Miller of Brownsfork, Mildred Colwell of Confluence, Ky., Minnie Dehne of Lexington and Nancy Estep and husband Danny of Sassafras; brother Fred Jones of Cumberland, Ky.; sister Nola Osborne of Eolia, Ky., along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 20 at the Clairborne-Overholt Funeral Home in New Tazewell, Tn. with Russell Gilbert officiating. The interment followed in the Cox Cemetery located at New Tazewell.
