COAL HARBOR — Weather is being blamed for an accident on Kentucky 451 Wednesday that sent an elderly woman to the hospital.

Two vehicles collided in the accident, however, only the driver of one vehicle was taken to the hospital as the other, Burt Baker, said at the scene that he was unhurt and refused treatment. Baker said that the driver of the other vehicle lost control of her car in a wet corner following a heavy rain, and came over into his lane with no time for him to avoid her.

Baker said had just come from fishing and was towing a boat. The force of the accident threw the boat into the back of his vehicle and her car in to the opposite ditch.

The woman, whose name was not released, was unconscious at the scene but breathing, authorities said. Emergency crews cut the top off of the vehicle to remove her from the car before transporting her to the Hazard ARH hospital. A flight crew was called out to take her to a trauma center, but weather forced them to turn around.
