HYDEN — One person was killed Wednesday night during a two-vehicle collision in Leslie County.

Troopers with the Kentucky State Police responded to the scene on Highway 421 following a call reporting the incident at 9:15 p.m.

The crash happened when a vehicle being driven by 39-year-old Levi Lewis, of Hyden, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle being operated by a woman identified as Brittany Shell, according to a KSP release. Shell and a passenger in Lewis’s vehicle identified as Jennifer Short were airlifted to the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tn. for treatment.

Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner’s Office. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to police.
