Last week, the Perry County Central Commodores took on the Letcher Central Cougars for the 53rd district soccer title. The Commodores came out strong, but could not hold off the Cougars in the second half.

The Commodores went up 3-0 early in the game as Dylan Wooton completed the hat-trick. Wooton’s first goal came off a penalty kick. He had to take the shot twice because of movement on the back line, but came away with the goal (1-0).

Five minutes later, Wooton found himself in front of the goalie once again. Logan Spencer kicked a low ball that penetrated the entire Cougar defense, and ended up on the foot of Dylan Wooton. Wooton promptly deposited in the goal (2-0).

Midway through the first half, Wooton once again found assistance from a team mate. Chris Saylor gave the ball a long ride downfield, where Wooton took one touch to the net (3-0).

Letcher Central finished the half with two goals, bringing the tally to 3-2. The score went to the half.

The Cougars would score three unanswered goals in the second half, giving them the 5-3 lead, and later the win. Both teams will move on to the region tournament.
