Members of the Perry County Wellness Coalition led a focus group in Hazard Wednesday to receive ideas on a potential wellness center. Approximately 20 people participated, and discussed issues ranging from what they would like to see in a community wellness center to the sort of activities that could be offered. The coalition was formed several months ago as a project of the Community Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky as a way to help improve health and wellness in the area. Les Roll (pictured at left), who is working with the coalition, led Wednesday’s meeting at the Perry County Public Library. The purpose of the focus groups, one of which was held at Buckhorn School, have been to glean information from the community about the feasibility of a local center to create opportunities for fitness not currently available in the area. So far the project is just in the discussion stages. Also pictured above is Allison Tse, an AmeriCorps VISTA with the community foundation.
