PCC’s Darien Bauer clinches his pin on Harrison County’s Whitt.

Darien Bauer led the Perry Central wrestling team with the top performance at the Harrison County Hilltop Tournament. Six wrestlers from PCC placed in the medals with the others gaining some wins before elimination.

Bauer had straight wins taking him to the championship match in the 170-pound weight class. Bauer outscored Savage of Madison Central 6-2, followed with an easy win over Willoughby of Grant County 15-2, and ended with a pin on Whitt of Harrison County in 2:31.

Chance Neace, at 160 pounds, quickly pinned Rawls of Bryan Station in 29 seconds without breaking a sweat. Against Ware of Newport, he earned a technical fall in 5:02 winning 17-2. In the championship match Neace fell to Schwatcher of Scott in the first period, finishing second.

At 120 pounds, Bradley Colwell lost his first match, but came back with four straight wins for third place. In a high scoring match, Colwell came up short against Ashford of Scott 20-15. In the next match he upped his game and scored a quick takedown in the opening seconds that put his opponent Lewis of Madison Southern out of the tournament with an injured shoulder. Colwell pinned South Oldham’s Schrininsky in 26 seconds. Lopez of Harrison County forfeited in the next match putting Colwell in the match for third where Colwell faced Hensley of Scott. In a close match, Colwell won 2-1.

Austin Haney at 152 pounds finished fourth. He won his first match against Millikin of Harrison with an 18-2 technical fall. He lost his next match with Bourbon County’s Bean in a 4-1 decision. Against Newman of Grant County, Haney won 4-1 and won 8-4 over Sirey of Madison Southern. In a rematch with Bean, he lost by decision 4-0.

Ethan Bivens at 182 finished fourth, after falling in the third period of his first match to Franco of Newport. Bivens came back with wins against Weatherall of Scott with a 28 second pin and a 4-2 decision over Johnson of Bryan Station. In the match for third, Bivens had a rematch with Franco that he lost in the first period.

At 220 pounds, Charlie Morgan fell to Burney of Bryan Station in the first round. Morgan pinned Franco of Newport in 50 seconds in the next round. He advanced with two forfeits over Madison Southern’s Howard and Madison Central’s Couch before facing Williams of Harrison in the match for third where he fell in the second period.
