Vernon Messer, 81, of Hazard, died Monday, Dec. 10 at the hospice care center in Hazard.


He was a retired plumber for the Hazard Housing Authority, and was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Rowles Messer, and spouses Callie Messer and Mary Ellen Messer.


He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Lynn Messer-Eversole; brothers Joe Ray Messer and Paul and Roy Rowles; stepchildren Howard Wayne Miller, Martha Allen, Elmer Allen, Terry Miller, Norman Allen, and Betty Feltner; former son-in-law Mitchell Eversole; grandson Vernon Bradley Eversole; and great-grandchild Cadence Blaine Eversole.


Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13. Services will immediately follow with Billy Ray Whitehead officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Hazard.
