Malissa Statzer, 99, died Saturday, Dec. 22 at her home in Hazard.


She was the daughter of the late Arthur Clay and the late Esther Stamper Clay, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Lyda Statzer; sons Arthur and Thomas Statzer; and daughters Dorothy Tucker, Nancy Couch, and Lyda Combs.


She is survived by daughter Charlene Asher and Barbara Lyttle; son Carl Statzer; daughter-in-law Geneva Statzer; sons-in-law Quinten Combs and Garland Couch; 33 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.


Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard. Services were held on Thursday, Dec. 27 at Jeff Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Haddix and Rev. Terry Joseph officiating. Burial took place at the Brewer Cemetery in Leslie County.
