Lady Dores go 1-2 in Beach Ball Classic

On Christmas evening, the Perry County Central Lady Commodores headed to Daytona Beach, Fl. for the Beach Ball Classic. The Lady Commodores had a difficult task in front of them as they took on two teams that were ranked in the top 50 nationally. In the end, they came away with a 1-2 record.


In their first game, the Lady Commodores took on the Edge Water Lady Eagles from Orlando. The Lady Eagles are the defending Florida Class 6A champions and have two Division I recruits on the team.


Perry Central played strong in the early going, and came away with the 18-16 lead at the horn. The even play continued in the second period, with Edge Water getting the advantage. The Lady Commodores went into the locker room trailing 30-29.


The second half would not go as well for Perry Central. Little by little they began to lose ground. At the end of the third period, Perry Central trailed 48-40, and they eventually succumbed 62-48.

In their second game, the Lady Commodores took on the Penfield Lady Patriots out of Rochester, New York. The Lady Patriots were the 4A state runners up last season, and returned their entire team.


The battle went back and forth in the first period, with Penfield coming away with the 20-16 lead. The Lady Patriots took over at that time, and built a double-digit lead at the break (38-24).


Perry Central played hard in the third period, but could come away with nothing better than a tie, leaving them to make up 14 points in the fourth quarter (51-37). The Lady Commodores ran out of steam in the final period, and fell by the final count of 67-44.

In their final game of the tournament, Perry Central took on the Crestwood Lady Knights from Sumter, South Carolina. The Lady Commodores took control of the game early, and never looked back as they collected the win.


The Lady Commodores came out strong, building a double-digit lead in the first period. They finished the frame with the 17-8 advantage. Things slowed down a bit in the second period, but Perry Central managed to go into the intermission up 25-15.


Perry Central picked up the pace in the third period, and with eight minutes to play held the 40-22 lead. Crestwood nearly doubled their tally in the final period, but could not catch Perry Central down the stretch. The Lady Commodores went on to win by the final of 54-40.
