Dan Woods, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.
He was born March 25, 1932 at Saul, the son of the late John Woods and the late America Carmack Woods, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Woods; son Chester Woods; brothers Felix and Chester Woods; grandchild Greg Woods.
He had lived in Indiana and Florida before returning home to Clay County in 1989, residing in Oneida. He was the founder and pastor of the Fairview Baptist Church, and enjoyed ginsenging and being around people. Above all, Dan was a loving father and grandfather, and enjoyed bringing the ministry to people, as he dedicated his life to the Lord.
He is survived by sons Kenny Woods and wife Peggy of Oneida, Donnie Woods of Groveland, Fl., Jimmy Woods and wife Jean of Red Bird, John Woods and wife Lisa of Bloomfield, In., Dale Woods and wife Pam of Manchester, Dan B. Woods of Oneida, and Mark Woods and wife Keshia of Oneida; daughters Kathy Filegar and husband John of Montverd, Fl., Jean Woods of Barbourville, Cookie Ruetz and husband Steve of Montverd, and Tootsie Brown and husband Jimmy of Oneida; brother George Woods of Saul; sisters Violet Ross of Booneville, Helen Rice, Lavenia Barger, Emma Gay and Cassie Mills, all of Saul, Rachel Gay of Oneida, and Martha Gay of Lily, Ky.; 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of step-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday Jan. 2 at the Fairview Baptist Church in Oneida with Bob Rice, Jesse Martin, Harold Godsey, and Carl Brown officiating. The interment followed in the government cemetery located at Saul.
Arrangements were handled by Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard.
