James “Jim” Buckner, 78, died Friday, Jan. 4 at his residence in Hazard.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired administrator for Hazard ARH. He was the son of the late Walter Earl Buckner and the late Charlotte Baker Buckner, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy C. Buckner; grandson Dustin Buckner; and step-brother Robert Dewey Cook.
He is survived by his daughter, Joy Amburgey and husband Scott of Winchester; sons Mike Buckner of California, John Mark Buckner and wife Darlene of Hazard, and Jay Buckner and wife Lesley of Berea; sisters Linda Buckner of Hazard and Vickie Buckner of Georgia; brother Wendell “Bud” Buckner of Ohio; grandchildren David Michael, Brandon, Taylor, Dalton, and Mitchell; great-grandchildren Breonna, Kaidence, and Cameron; and a host of family and friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7. Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 with Rev. A.D. “Pete” McGee and Rev. Ron O’Brien officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Hazard.
