WHITESBURG — A Letcher County man is facing assault charges after his girlfriend was found stabbed in her home.

Tina Wells, 33, of Pine Creek, was brought to the Whitesburg ARH on Wednesday after receiving multiple stab wounds while in her residence.

Kentucky State Police have arrested Wells’ boyfriend, Robert Hamilton, 28, also of Letcher County, after information came up during the investigation leading police to suspect his involvement, according to a KSP release.

Hamilton is lodged in the Letcher County Jail and charged with first-degree assault for domestic violence and other charges related to a bench warrant.

Wells was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for further treatment.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
