One of the most anticipated games of the season took place Friday as the Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Cordia Lions. The game that everyone expected did not occur, however, as the Commodores put the game on ice early and cruised to the 80-64 win.

The Commodores came out hot, dropping shots from behind the arc. Perry Central was also able to quell the Cordia offense by stepping in the passing lanes, creating multiple turnovers. At the end of the first period, the Commodores were on top 25-11.

Little changed in the second period as Perry Central continued to hold the hot hand. A late rally by Cordia boosted their score, but could do little to stop the Commodore momentum. Perry Central went into the break holding the 50-20 advantage.

The Lions came out of the locker room hot, and put together an 11-5 run early. However, the Commodores soon regained their composure and evened things out. Near the end of the period, both teams began to go to their benches to rest their starters for the upcoming district.

Perry Central carried the 67-43 lead into the fourth quarter, but could not hold off a young Lion enthusiasm. Cordia made another run in the fourth quarter, and cut into Perry Central’s final margin. The Commodores went on to win the game by the final count of 80-64.

Perry Central (80) Dalton Cornett 20 (8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 steal), Justin Johnson 27 (12 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal), Austin Pray 4 (6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal), Braxton Beverly 10 (2 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal), Darryl Beatty 8 (1 rebound and 1 block), Travis Stacy 6 (3 rebounds and 1 assist), Tyler Fugate 2 (2 assists, 1 block and 2 steals), Nathan Pray 1 (1 rebound, 1 block and 1 steal), Trevor Fugate 2, Seth Napier (1 rebound) and Jon-Eric Begley (1 rebound).
