Ralph Edward Kidd, Sr., 78, of Science Hill, Ky. and formerly of Pine Knot, passed away Monday, Feb. 25 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard.
He was born April 6, 1934, in Pine Knot to Andrew Jackson “AJ” Kidd and Nellie (Stephens) Kidd. Ralph was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Kidd Hardware and Grocery in Pine Knot for more than 17 years, and was a member and past president of Kiwanis as well as the Chamber of Commerce, long time chairman of the McCreary County Airport Board, a member of the Orie S. Ware Masonic Lodge No. 874 of Stearns, Ky., and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Covington, Ky.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers James Beauford, Robert Floyd, Theodore, and Jack “AJ” Kidd; and sisters Lora Wood, Betty Lena Branning, Dorothy Moses, Irene Kidd, Carol Reba Haynes, and Ruth Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Trammell) Kidd, whom he married June 7, 1957, of Science Hill; son Ralph Edward “Eddie” Kidd and wife Trish of Hazard; daughter Tracey Neikirk and husband Randy of Science Hill; sister Mary Gilreath and husband Marvin of Oak Ridge, Tn.; grandchildren Laura Michell Ross and husband Daniel, Phillip Neikirk and wife Kara, Perry Neikirk, Kelsie Kidd, and Kendra Kidd.
Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home of Whitley City handled the arrangements. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2 with Pastor Tim Fisher officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Knot Cemetery. Condolences may be left for the family at www.strunkfuneralhome.net.
