Gladys Marie Sholar, 95, died Thursday, March 7 at the Hazard ARH medical center.
She was born April 7, 1917, in Hardburly, the daughter of the late Jasper Owens and the late Diance Owens, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert D. Sholar; brothers Clarence Owens, Ralph Owens, and Eugene B. Owens; and sister Alene Owens Farris.
She was a retired secretary from Transylvania University, and a member of the Dwarf Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Grace Baptist Church in Lexington for about 60 years.
She is survived by her sister, Almeda Richie of Hazard; special niece Brenda Williams and husband Delmar of Lotts Creek; and six additional nieces, nine nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. at the Dwarf Baptist Church with Randy Combs officiating. The interment will follow in the Owens Family Cemetery at Dwarf. The visitation will be at the Dwarf Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m.
