The Hazard Bulldogs traveled to Lexington to play in the Defender Classic at Bryan Station over the weekend. The Bulldogs ended the tournament with a 2-1 record, posting wins over Danville and Bryan Station, while losing to Estill County.
In the first game, the Bulldogs took on the Danville Admirals. The Bulldogs fell behind early, but managed a two-part rally for the win.
Danville got on the board first with a pair of runs in the third inning. Hazard would have to wait until the fifth in-ning to tie the game. A seventh inning rally posted a run on the Bulldogs’ side of the board, giving them the 3-2 win.
Austin Johnson came into the game in relief of Griffen Wells in the sixth inning and received the win.Hazard stats: Austin Johnson 2 runs and 1 hit, J.T. Haynes 1 RBI, Griffen Wells 3 hits and 2 RBI and Cole Ratliff 1 run and 1 hit.
In the second game, the Bulldogs took on the Defenders of Bryan Station. Hazard jumped out to the early lead, and never looked back as they posted the 8-5 win.
Hazard picked up half of their runs in the first inning, touching the plate four times. They followed that with a single run in each the second, fourth and fifth innings (7-0).
Bryan Station began to roll up some runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and by the time the game entered the final frame, Hazard led 8-5. The Bulldogs did not score in the final inning, nor did they allow their opponents to find the plate. Hazard went on to win the game by the final count of 8-5.
Kameron Conley picked up the win on the mound, while Blake Nidiffer received the save.

In the final game, the Bulldogs took on the Estill County Engineers. Hazard took the early lead, but could not hold off a rally by the Engineers.
Estill County put a single run on the board in the top of the first inning, but quickly turned the lead over to Hazard as the Bulldogs top them with two runs. The Engineers staged a comeback with two runs in each the third and fourth innings (5-2).
The Bulldogs pulled to within a pair of runs with a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hazard would then try to rally in the seventh inning, but fell short by a run (5-4).
